What are the symptoms of Mesothelioma?

Below are the main types for Mesothelioma and their symptoms.

There are two main types of mesothelioma:

  • peritoneal mesothelioma – which develops in the lining of the stomach
  • pleural mesothelioma – this is the most common type of Mesothelioma, it develops in the tissue covering the lungs

It is vital to understand and recognise the symptoms of both of these to ensure swift and helpful support;

The symptoms for Pleural Mesothelioma are as follows;

  • a persistent cough
  • a high temperature of 38ºC
  • Pains in the chest area
  • unexplained weight loss
  • Shortness of breath

The symptoms for Pertonial Mesothelioma are;

  • pain or swelling in the tummy (abdomen)
  • unexplained weight loss
  • diarrhoea or constipation
  • loss of appetite
  • feeling or being sick
